This does end in a cliffhanger (book 2 is out though!).Two brothers wake up in different states to find out the world is ending. Seems silly - zombie dogs. But the descriptions the author has of how lovable dogs were suddenly change. There is no reason it seems for all dogs across the US (possibly the wold?) to become decomposed and start killing humans of all ages. Dogs no longer recognize their owners or friends or families, they only feel the need to kill and eat. The survivors are put to the test. Do they try to save loved ones? Strangers? Do they run or try to fight? What about supplies - medical, food, gas?
One brother leaves his wife with his ill daughter to go find his brother. The other brother has left his home to go check on his friend and see if his brother and his family are okay. On the way, he has the decision to help strangers or not.
This book made their problems seem as if I was with them. As if I was seeing the horror and tragedy and witnessing the brutal deaths of people they knew. Some scenes were hard to read but look at the blurb - IT'S A HORROR story meaning there are going to be dark, gory, bloody things. I got hooked in this book and read it until I was done....then I saw the second book. Hope there are more to come too!

Hounded 2 Zombie Dogs edition by Ellie Douglas Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Brilliant story, great characters and fast paced, non-stop action. As more characters enter the story, one may think that it would detract from the actual storyline. It doesn’t, they actually enhance it, each with their own traits & idiosyncrasies. I can’t get enough of these books. As a watcher of this genre I am now converted to being an avid reader. But be warned! If you have a dog, sleep with one eye open.
A book about zombie dogs that continue to spread killing humans in their way. The descriptions are quite detailed and I could picture the gore, torn apart bodies, and the horrific dogs. too frequent for my taste. The faint of heart would not be able to read this book. It is a horror story in every sense of the word.
Very original, very descriptive and very gory- that's what you need to know about this novel. The author does a fantastic job describing animal attacks and zombie flesh degradation- perhaps too good! You may never look at Man's best friend the same way again! I would recommend both for the original concept, the fast paced action and the anticipated goriness.
I did not realize what I was getting into with this book! I'm sure there are some that will absolutely love it but as for me, no no no
Can man survive Man’s Best Friend turned Man’s Worst Enemy?
I believe Hounded is a great story with a huge amount of potential. The characters were believable and the reader does find themselves pulling for them throughout the story. For anyone that loves a lot of gore, this is definitely a story for you. Some of the descriptions of deaths in the book are graphic and horrific.
The parts of the story I had issues with came down to more the telling of the story rather than the story itself. There were some instances where the Author over used similes. Sometimes, three times in the span of two paragraphs. There were also instances where the wrong words were used as descriptives within the story.
When I started reading Hounded, I thought I was in deleted scene from Cujo, but it didn't stay that way long, it got so much worse, more than I could've imagined. I do warn you that this book is not for the faint of heart. It starts brutal and progresses with every turn of the page. I'm so glad I moved this book to the top of my to read list. It is filled with unexpected events and imagery that I had a hard time putting it down. I won't give any spoilers, no in my words synopsis, but I will tell you that it is exciting and at times heartwarming, which is a nice addition; and no it isn't sappy in those parts. I definitely recommend this to anyone who loves zombies!
“Hounded” is a full-out Zombie apocalypse with a lot of visual detail and gore. It had the feel and violence of the show “The Walking Dead”. Yet, it focused on animals over humans becoming Zombies which was a nice twist. There were two story lines focusing on brothers in different states. I like apocalypse scenarios, and Zombies thrown in are a bonus. Plus, there’re a lot of well-done descriptive passages of the carnage that goes along with these creatures. The Zombies were chilling eating machines and the humans confused and trying to survive. I was rooting for some of the characters, but a few I didn’t care what happened to them, which I’m sure is what Ms. Douglas intended. There were a couple of editing issues I noticed along the way, but it didn’t pull me out of this exciting horror story. Although, I’m not a huge fan of “tons of gore” I will have to read “Hounded 2” to see what happens next. If you love Zombies, descriptive bloody details, and action--this is the book for you.
