“You know the frustrating feeling of losing the page in your book? You didn’t want to go too far forward and spoil the surprise, and you didn’t want to go too far back, so you kind of stagnated and started from a page that didn’t seem quite right…that was how I felt about my life.” (LOC 76)Sarah always kept her nose in a book (like me!), waiting for something to find her yet worried she may never be found. Yes, it would be nice to have a man who understood your love, or obsession, with books. But where do you find one? What’s a girl to do to get off a rut? Start a book blog, where she would be free to discuss books and connect with other book aficionados. It’s always easier to live vicariously through a book.
Suddenly a handsome stranger has the books falling out of Sarah’s hands. Then a story of puppy love unravels.
You can’t help but love Sarah’s love for books and the cute, little love story is endearing. However, I got kind of sick of hearing all the talk about weddings and babies among the circle of friends. Seriously, those women were just nosy and neurotic. I also didn't adore the small-town life, which, let's face it, is usually filled with nosy busybodies.
I liked the hopeless romantic concept, but wasn’t all too impressed with the writing, which had expressions like “sticky-outy.” I guess it was sort of fitting as the main character was shy and introverted in a cute, dorky way.
Sweet, short, typical love story.

The Bookshop On The Corner The Gingerbread Café The Bookshop series Book 1 edition by Rebecca Raisin Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I loved, loved, loved "The Bookshop on the Corner".
As the romance reading book shop owner Sarah Smith came to life with each page, I identified with her in so many ways. She was smart, sassy, quirky and scared of being hurt by the real world. Then she meets NY reporter Ridge Warner. He's a romance novel hero personified. What's a small town gal to do?
This book is a quick, romantic, clean and funny read that tugged at my heart strings and made me chuckle. I look forward to reading more about this quaint town and it's unique residents.
I love the bookshop setting. I could totally relate to Sarah's love for books and I felt like I was right there in the shop with her. I liked Sarah, however, I found her a bit "sweet" and young for her age at times. I wish that Ridge had been flushed out a bit more, so I'd had a better feel for him because I found him intriguing.
The author's writing style flows well and is easy to read. I really liked her voice and would like to read her book The Little Bookshop on the Seine, being an avid reader of all books set in Paris. If you are looking for a very sweet and light read, you might like The Bookshop On The Corner.
This is a short romance about a cutesy bookshop owner and her real life love affair with books. Yeah I said books people!!! Don't get me wrong, this book also has a hunky journalist who warrants his own label for being perfect book/real life boyfriend material but Sarah alone took the spot light.
I instantly clicked with Sarah because her inner dialogue and passion for reading and all things books had me laughing (lets be honest - I was flat out giggling!) throughout the whole story. Sarah is every girl's inner bookworm. She sees and feels for the written word like a true poet and lover of literature.
My favorite line "The written word, it can be downright mind-blowing, sometimes."
If you want to laugh and are in the mood for lighthearted slightly corny reading with a happily ever after than check out The Bookshop on the Corner. *Warning - You may suffer from Envy-itis, Sarah's shop really does sound like heaven.
A cute romance novel just perfect for a long wait at the airport or a stay-at-home weekend. It is short and can easily be finished in one day if you are a voracious reader like me. It takes place in a little town called Ashford where everyone knows everybody's business and where friends are there to lend an ear and have your back. The characters are the Gingerbread cafe owner and her cook, the local beauty salon owner, and then there is Sarah Smith, our main character, who runs the local used book store. Her books are her "babies."
What endeared me to this novel is Sarah's love of the written word, and books in general. The authors describes (in Sarah's voice) why even dog-eared paperbacks say something significant about the contents and their readers. A refreshing concept. I'd love to sit a spell in her book store. I could easily understand why she wanted time to herself with a chapter or two each morning before she opened the shop. Quaint book stores have an ambiance all their own.
The dialogue is witty and the characters loyal and believable, the kind you'd like as best friends. Not a 5-star novel (very few are, in my humble opinion) but at least 3.5 stars, and definitely worthy of a few hours of your time if "escapism" into something charming and funny sounds appealing to you.
What an amazing story to lose myself in last evening! I was in love from page one.
I have always had dreams of owning my own little book shop, my little corner of the world where I could mingle with lovely readers and cuddle up with a good book when my shop was empty. That would be HEAVEN.
That is exactly what Sarah Smith's store, The Bookshop On The Corner, is like. It's her little oasis where she can escape to in the early hours of the morning to enjoy a little reading before the store opens and her little peace of paradise where she sells books to like minded bookaholics as herself.
Her genre of choice is Romance, as is mine, and she loves to read about the hero's and dream what it would be like when she met her own one day. Although as of late, she has been of the mindset that won't be happening.
Then one day he walks in...she thought she was dreaming...Ridge was his name and she was falling for him...
The only problem is herself...the ups and downs of their fairytale will have you reading in one sitting...
